Finance Simulation Platform

Learn finance by making the decisions.

Five simulators. Each one puts you inside a real finance role (private equity, credit analyst, hedge fund etc). You make the decisions, see the results, and understand what you did wrong. Each full run takes about 20 minutes. All simulators are free.

Buyout: Industrial Services

What drove the result

Multiple expansion accounted for 44% of value creation. Margin improvement was the primary operational driver. Entry leverage amplified returns but compressed the floor.

Who it is for

Which one are you?

01

New to finance

You studied history, biology, or engineering. Finance always felt like someone else's world. You want to understand what PE, hedge funds, and asset management actually involve, not from a textbook, but by making real decisions.

02

Preparing for the industry

You have a spring week, an interview, or an assessment centre coming up. You understand the theory. Now you need to practise the decisions (deals, portfolios, risk) so the answers come naturally under pressure.

03

Running a society or group

You lead a finance society, run a training programme, or organise recruiting events. You want to host a structured challenge, rank your members, and give them something genuinely useful to compete on.

The simulators

Five simulators. Five finance roles.

Each simulator is a self-contained run of roughly 20 minutes. You start with a fixed scenario, make a sequence of decisions, and see what happens. All five are free and infinitely repeatable. Deep analytics (run reports, comparison breakdowns) are available for £20.

I

Private Equity

You are a buyout investor.

Source a deal, choose your capital structure, set leverage, manage the business through its hold period, and exit. Each decision (entry price, debt load, operational changes) affects your final return.

What you learn

Entry multiple discipline, capital structure trade-offs, EBITDA growth, multiple expansion, hold period risk.

II

Private Credit

You are a credit analyst rising to fund manager.

Underwrite loans to private-equity-backed companies. Price risk, set covenants, monitor portfolio health, and manage defaults. The simulator follows you through increasing seniority: analyst to director to MD.

What you learn

Cash flow stress-testing, covenant protection, downside management, sponsor dynamics, credit discipline.

III

Buy-side Analyst

You are a junior analyst at an investment firm.

Build an investment view company by company. Read signals, form a thesis, size positions, and manage a portfolio. The work is slow and uncertain. That is the point.

What you learn

Valuation, thesis construction, conviction vs. consensus, portfolio sizing, timing.

IV

Hedge Fund

You are running a hedge fund.

Take long and short positions across multiple strategies. Manage gross and net exposure, respond to market shocks, handle redemption pressure, and protect your fund from liquidity crises.

What you learn

Position sizing, short risk, factor exposure, volatility management, being right at the wrong time.

V

Asset Management

You are a fund manager with a client mandate.

Manage a portfolio against a benchmark inside defined constraints. Allocate across assets, control tracking error, retain clients, and keep the fund alive through drawdowns.

What you learn

Asset allocation, tracking error, mandate constraints, client relationship management, process discipline.

Society challenge hosting

Run finance challenges for your society or group.

Metaxu lets societies, universities, companies, and training groups host private competitive simulations for their members, with timed windows, private leaderboards, and steward controls.

1

Request a society room

Submit your society or organisation details. Once approved, your room is provisioned and a steward is given admin access.

2

Invite members

Members join through an invite link or code. Societies can be private or open depending on the group.

3

Create a challenge

Choose a simulator, write the brief, set the start and end time, select reveal mode, and cap maximum attempts.

4

Run the leaderboard

Participants complete the challenge and results appear on a society-specific leaderboard, either live or on close.

Why the name?

μεταξύ

Greek · between

Metaxu means between.

The platform sits between learning finance and doing finance. Between reading about a role and making the decisions that role requires. Between theory, practice, and judgement.

It is a bridge into the disciplines of capital.

Begin

Start with one simulation.

Create an account, choose a simulator, complete a run, and review the report. If you run a society or group, request a room and host your first challenge.
